I think seeing Barbra in concert is really a no-regrets situation. Also, she added a Saturday show, and I believe there are still tickets available to that one on Ticketmaster.

My mom has purchased two tickets to Barbra Streisand’s concert at Barclays Center in October, and the two of us will be going together.

When I was a kid, my mom and grandma went to see Babs at the Palace of Auburn Hills on her farewell tour (or at least at the time that’s what it was). My dad trained my brother and I to be perfect little heterosexuals, and the three of us ridiculed my mother from the day she bought the tickets onward.

Going to a Barbra Streisand concert with my mom has never been on any bucket list of mine ever, and it’s certainly not what I thought as a kid I’d be doing at the age of 25, but OH MY GOD I’M EXCITED.

I should also note that I’m going with my dad to see Michigan take on the West Virginia at the Barclays Center in December. My parents have dissimilar interests and therefore I get the best of both worlds.

So naturally I am procrastinating and please allow me to complain about something:

I got an email from my former doctor today informing me that my health insurance is declining coverage on a physical that took place over a year ago, and I now owe him $250. I no longer go to this doctor because he stopped accepting my insurance. This is another matter.

According to the email, I was denied coverage because of a preexisting condition (why this has not come up at any of the other ~5 doctor visits I’ve had since starting this policy in December of 2010 is beyond me. What’s more: the insurance company tried to contact me but did not have my correct address. Apparently there is no way to contact me but via the address supplied by my employer’s outsourced HR company. I assume the HR company does not push new addresses to the health insurance company with enough frequency to maintain current addresses for people who live in New York and move every 2 months.

I called my insurance company. I was informed that as long as I can prove that I had health insurance for 1 year preceding my current plan, the physical will be covered. It will nullify the preexisting condition clause or whatever.

This isn’t a problem. I had health insurance because there was no way my dad would allow me to move to New York with no job AND no health insurance. But what if I hadn’t been insured? What if, on top of being unemployed and broke, I also didn’t have a father who could afford to pay for it?

So to reiterate what everyone else already knows, our health care system sucks, and I’m obviously only having a minor problem here.

And jury’s still out on whether or not I’ll actually get this covered.
